Last night was a really meaningful time hearing from Pamela & Ashley as they shared their hearts for people, and the struggles of practicing God’s love in broken places. Their stories from South Africa and Nepal challenge us in so many ways! At the very least, hopefully, we were all able to ask ourselves how we are participating in kingdom work today, here & now… How is your hand on the plough? Where could God be calling you to step in faith into a place where you can better share the love of Christ to humanity- even if that’s the person right in front of you? Many of you wanted to read more about Pamela & Ashley’s lives, and track their work on their different blogs. Pamela can be found on http://www.restoredyouth.blogspot.com/ Ashley writes at http://www.reflectioninwater.blogspot.com/ Thanks ladies for spending an evening with us and being so open with your lives!

the hard path
Published November 3, 2009 Thoughts to Ponder , Weekly Soul Leave a CommentTags: chloe burns, jon burns, julie burns, leukemia, suffering
Several weeks ago, we had a Sunday morning service revolving around the theme of suffering. ’Where is God when it hurts?’ was a primary question in play. Our good friends Jon & Julie Burns graciously shared their story, and the hard path they walked with their daughter Chloe’s leukemia. This is really worthy to watch if you missed it… Probably the strongest stuff here is watching a husband & wife dialoguing so honestly about their pain, & hearing the very different ways they each continue to process together. The live message portion is missing here, but if you really want to hear it, you can go to the WBCC site, and go under media : sermon archive : god loves us in the pain. done

snow upon the wilted gold
Published October 29, 2009 Artistic , songs that speak deep Leave a CommentTags: cassie nason, seasons, snow, winter
a few weeks ago, as a reflection on Justin’s teaching of Switchfoot’s “New Way to Be Human”, we all improvised poems around the phrase “All Things New”. One that got shared, written by Cassie Nason, captures that idea through nature and the change of seasons. We thought it only fitting to post it here today, amidst the winter white and the apparent new season that is upon us….
snow upon the wilted gold
breaking the bow of autumn
does the muted limb
understand the sacrifice
of winter’s steady progress?
does the cooling kiss
bring excitement or mourning?
can we see a way to be
new again?
when all around a fog has settled
strangling
there is no protest
from the ash
only embrace
captivation
as the snow falls softly
down

I shared this with a few friends yesterday and found it cool enough to post. In our discussion of SONGS THAT SPEAK DEEP, we’ve really been talking about art that moves the soul. I would contend that we are created to be creative ourselves on some level… This sand animation from “Ukraine’s Got Talent” (yes, I know, random!) reminded me of how great artists can speak so powerfully. It also reminded me that this is a whole lot better than Hasselhoffs show! Enjoy… The artist is Kseniya Simonova and in this video she depicts Russia’s ‘Great Patriotic War’ against the Nazis in the 1940’s. -C
Strangely, the same day we kick off our Peru Christmas Fund Raiser, Balloon Boy stole the headlines… Coincidence? We think not. What does it all mean? We’re not sure. But if you haven’t seen Falcon’s follow up interview on the Today show, you’ll want to check this out…
